Women make up over 50% of Africa’s population, yet their leadership representation remains disproportionately low:

  • Women hold just 24% of parliamentary seats across Africa, despite studies showing that greater female representation leads to more inclusive policies and stronger governance.
  • In the corporate world, less than 5% of CEOs in Africa’s top companies are women.
  • Women-led businesses contribute nearly 60% of Africa’s GDP, yet female entrepreneurs receive significantly less access to funding, mentorship, and leadership opportunities.

These statistics highlight an urgent need for deliberate action to equip and empower more women to step into leadership roles. Advancing women in leadership is not just about gender equality—it is essential for Africa’s economic growth, innovation, and long-term progress.

Having navigated the professional world herself, Alexina Phiri saw first-hand how difficult it can be for women to access leadership positions. She witnessed highly capable and ambitious women held back by deeply ingrained societal expectations, lack of mentorship, and limited access to professional networks.

Determined to change this reality, she founded Adona Foundation—a platform dedicated to ensuring that women across Africa are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to lead in their chosen fields

At Adona Foundation, we take a holistic approach to women’s empowerment, focusing on three core pillars:

Advocacy & Policy Influence – Working to break down systemic barriers and push for policies that foster a more inclusive and equitable leadership landscape for women in Africa.

Education & Skills Development – Providing leadership training, scholarships, and skills-building initiatives to prepare women for decision-making roles.

Mentorship & Networking – Connecting emerging leaders with experienced women in politics, business, and various industries to guide their journey.
